You may have seen in my previous post, I have been in search of the perfect kitchen area rug. Now that I've found that... I've got a new mission... a new kitchen table light fixture. The current light fixture is what they like to refer to as the *builder's lights*. Although, it's not horrible, it has never been my favorite. I recently discovered Capitol Lighting's 1-800lighting.com, an amazing source for a wide-selection of various light fixtures.

In selecting a new kitchen light fixture, the first thing that I look for is uniqueness. I am very particular when it comes to adding new items to our home and really like to find pieces that are new and different. Of course, the price factor is the next important item in the decision process. With the wide-selection offered at 1-800lighting.com, I knew that I would find the perfect kitchen light for our home. I've now narrowed it down to three beautiful pendant lights.

The live chat is very useful and a nice option when shopping for lighting as I know I have questions that I would like answered immediately. I did notice, however, that it's only available during specific business hours, but a customer service representative will bet back to you within 24 hours.

Admittedly, any of these lights would look beautiful hanging above my  kitchen table... so... now comes the hard part... which do I choose? PLEASE HELP!

ace and friends thoughts: I received a sample of Purex UltraPacks in Mountain Breeze.... and a breeze it was to use. They recommend using one pack for a normal load and two for a larger load. I decided to use two as our washing machine hold quite a bit of clothing, towels, etc. You must remember to load the pack prior to adding the clothes so it dissolves appropriately. One thing I forgot to do before I added my dirty laundry. 

They are definitely easy to use and there is no measuring involved which is a bonus. The only issue that I have with this product is that I don't think it's gonna last as long as a BIG container of liquid detergent that I have been using for years, so shopping more often to replace these packs would be necessary. Overall, at the end of it all, my clothes appeared clean and smelled very refreshing. Final thoughts: Super easy, super convenient!

These salt and pepper mills were even more attractive in person. They are very easy to fill and operate. What I really liked about these two shakers was the ability to adjust the grind level from fine to course. In addition to adjusting the grind level, they also have a light that turns on when it is in use (see video above). It makes it easy to see what you are seasoning. A definite unique feature that I have not seen on competitive products.

First Alert: The Great Escape {Giveaway}

October is Fire Prevention Month! Are you as surprised as I am to hear that? In a study conducted by First Alert, 79% of Americans have a home escape plan in place in case of a fire or other emergencies. However, over half (51%) never practiced their plan and 29% have only practiced it once. I am sad to say, we fall in the minority {sigh}. We definitely plan to change that going forward!

To develop an effective fire escape plan, First Alert and the NFPA offer the following tips:

• Involve everyone in your household in developing a plan. Walk through your home and inspect all possible exits and escape routes. Identify two ways out of each room, including windows and doors. Make sure everyone in the home understands the plan. 

• Install smoke alarms throughout the home and test them monthly. Change batteries every six months to ensure proper function.

• Choose an outside meeting place (i.e. neighbor’s house, a light post, mailbox, or stop sign) a safe distance in front of your home where everyone can meet after they’ve escaped.

• Have everyone memorize the emergency phone number of the fire department. That way any member of the household can call from a neighbor’s home or a cellular phone once safely outside.

• Once you’re out, stay out! Under no circumstances should you ever go back into a burning building. If someone is missing, inform the fire department dispatcher when you call. Firefighters have the skills and equipment to perform rescues.

It is suggested to practice your home fire escape plan at least twice a year, making drills as realistic as possible.  Allow children to master fire escape planning and practice before holding a fire drill at night when they are sleeping. The objective is to practice, not to frighten, so telling children there will be a drill before they go to bed can be as effective as a surprise drill.

The Test drive by ace and friends

Assembly was super simple but I did need a Phillips head screwdriver to attach the handle to the base and it took less than a minute to do it.

The hose and accessories snapped into place and I was ready to roll.

There are many qualities that I enjoy about the Bissell Lift-Off Multi Cyclonic Pet Vacuum. Because I have carpeted and hardwood floors in my home, I wanted a vacuum that could easily go from one type of surface to the next. I appreciated that the wheels on this vacuum are made of a plastic/rubber material and don't damage or scratch our hardwood floors. 

Another thing that I really liked about this vacuum was that the dust cup is easily accessible, easy to empty and then easy to put back into place.  The dust cup container is located on the front of the vacuum and you can see through the clear plastic container when it needs to be emptied.

So, how does it sound and does it really work? First, the carpet. It performed very well on the carpet, picking up ALL sorts of YUCK (see above). The vacuum had some weight to it, but nothing overly unusual. It was easy to maneuver and I really liked the ability to go from the carpet area to the hardwood floors with a flip of a switch. By turning off the brush, you can easily transfer to the hardwood floors.

It easily picked up crumbs, leaves and other {stuff} on both surfaces. 

To reach the stairs, the canister detaches with ease and I could carry it with me to clean the staircase as well as the sofa and more. {love.}

So what are my favorite features:

I was thrilled that it picked up dust and dirt out of the carpet as well as worked perfectly on the hardwood floors. The crevice tools, pet turbo brush and extension piece performed as expected.  I really like that ALL of the attachments are housed/stored right on the vacuum itself. It makes for easy accessibility and easy storage. Some vacuums don't have this ability and I have been known to lose an attachment or two. So kudos to Bissell for their design.

Overall the vacuum was easy to maneuver and use. My first impression of the unit is quite positive and I expect many years of cleaning satisfaction with my Bissell Lift-Off Multi Cyclonic Pet Vacuum.
