Research shows that when students are engaged and actively participate in their own learning, they progress faster and further in understanding mathematics and science. Graphing handhelds such as the TI-Nspire CX have been shown to foster student engagement and encourage participation in their own learning. (source: TheTechJournal)

About The New TI-Nspire CX Handheld Graphing Calculator from Texas Instruments

There are lots of new colorful math & science learning tools for students – software, online apps, websites and videos. But many of these are stand-alone, ‘watch and learn’ tools, that don’t easily fit together to actively engage students, and their teachers. A new color-display graphing calculator from Texas Instruments is more about hands-on learning, and connecting with teachers and other students for collaborative learning. Unlike online tools or tablet devices, the TI-Nspire CX can be used on college entrance exams.

The Texas Instruments’ TI-Nspire CX handheld features:
  • Screen size: 320 x 240 pixels (3.2" diagonal)
  • 16-bit color
  • 100MB of storage memory
  • Visualize in full color
  • Use digital images or your own photos
  • Rechargeable battery
  • Thin design
  • 3D graphing
  • USB port for computer connectivity
  • Approved for standardized test
  • Easy to use computer features
  • Ideal for Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-calculus, Statistics, Business and Finance, Biology, Physics, Chemistry,  and Calculus

So what does color bring to math and science? - As students manipulate formulas they can see different parts of an equation or formula in color and how it corresponds side-by-side to color graphics, charts or tables. New 3D graphing capability lets students see and manipulate geometric, algebraic or scientific models. Teachers and students can import any PNG, JPG (JPEG) and BMP file into real-world exercises – e.g., chart a parabola against an image of a fountain’s stream. They can use data collection tools and sensors to collect real-world, real-time data, and present and manipulate that data in vivid, clear and colorful charts, graphs or formulas.

ace and friends thoughts

The Texas Instruments' TI-Nspire CX Graphing Calculator features a color screen, thin design as well as a rechargeable battery. Students can transfer class assignments from this handheld to a computer (PC or Mac) and complete their schoolwork outside of school using student software. The TI-Nspire CX calculator is extremely user friendly and intuitive. If you visit their website, you can find additional detailed instructions/documentations that downloadable in PDF format. You can tell by the design that it is of high quality engineering and careful testing to bring users a very useful tool.

I was thrilled to see that the TI-nspire CX handheld graphing calculator included all the necessities:
  • Calculator with Hard Front Face Case
  • a wall charger (to charge the 100-hour rechargeable Li-Ion battery)
  • USB Cable for Mac or PC Connection
  • Software Disk and Printed License Code
The colored screen is large, easy to read and wonderful. You can do a wide range of things between the calculator and computer allowing this calculator to be one of the best for advanced math. Again, the website is very helpful if you have any issues operating and learning how to use this graphing calculator.  Additionally, to charge this calculator, all you need to do is plug it in. Easy enough, right?

Finally, the TI-Nspire CX Graphing Calculator is a bit more expensive, but you certainly will get your money back tenfold in usability. As they say, you get what you pay for... and with this, it doesn't disappoint.

Hi! :) Hmm, not sure if I would have liked that wireless classroom thing 5 or so years ago when I was in school... sure wouldn't want them knowing what was on my calculator! But it's a good idea, still. LOL

I learned that it enables you to visualize in color:

Visualize in full color – Color-code equations, objects, points and lines on the full-color, backlit display. Make faster, stronger connections between equations, graphs and geometric representations on screen.

I like that it has the 3D graphics but, even better, is that you can transfer the information to your PC. My Son's girlfriend could really use this for pharmacy school.
