T.J.Maxx + Marshalls = Back To School Shopping Fun!

School has been in session for just about three weeks now and thankfully I have finally finished picking up one final outfit for a.c.e., thanks to my favorite stores T.J. Maxx and Marshalls.

For those that know me, both T.J. Maxx and Marshalls are two of my ALL-TIME favorite stores. I always find amazing deals throughout the store and for the Back To School season, they certainly didn't disappoint. Lucky for me, I have access to several different locations that I can shop often. I know each time I visit either T.J. Maxx or Marshalls, I will find something super fabulous that I know is much less expensive than in a department store.

About shopping at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls

TJ Maxx and Marshalls offers first-quality, name brand and designer merchandise - the same brands you see at the mall and in the department stores, but for much less, usually 20-60% less! Discount stores may offer similar prices as off-price retailiers, but the difference is in the quality of merchandise. TJ Maxx and Marshalls buyers are trend experts. They are constantly traveling the world and watching runways to keep their pulse on the cutting edge of fashion. These buyers work with designers directly right up until the last minute of every season to bring the latest trends straight to consumers. Each week, every TJ Maxx and Marshalls store receives 10,000+ new items to restock shelves and fill racks with the most up-to-the minute fashions.

Mom Central Consulting & T.J. Maxx Online Survey

TJ Maxx and Marshalls teamed up with Mom Central Consulting to conduct an online survey this past August (2011). They wanted to identify back-to-school (BTS) shopping habits. (Approx. 1,000 moms with a minimum of one child took the survey).

Take a look at these interesting results:
  • 60% of moms do most of their BTS shopping a few weeks in advance, however 25% wait up until the last minute
  • Nearly 50% of moms shop at just 2-3 stores
  • One third prefer to shop at "one-stop" stores rather than specialty stores
  • 81% of moms said that the rising costs of living negatively affect their family's BTS budget
  • To help moms balance what their child/children WANT vs. what the budget allows, it took compromise, spreading out purchases, budgeting as well as understanding WANTS vs. NEEDS/DURABILITY
  • 75% of moms sometimes agree with their child's fashion choices
  • 81% said they MUST HAVE a backpack
  • 84% say sneakers are the most important type of back-to-school footwear

ace and friends thoughts

As I mentioned previously I absolutely LOVE TJ Maxx and Marshalls! It's amazing how much you can really save at these stores for trendy and fashionable clothing for your kids (and your whole family). I was thrilled to find three amazing outfits for my kids for just under $50. Three entire outfits! Seriously, I know friends and family that spend $50 on just one item.

For {c}, I found this Kenneth Cole Reaction outfit - which included the two-in-one hoodie shirt and jeans that would typically retail in a department store for $54, was only $16.99 at T.J. Maxx. Seriously, it's hard to find a pair of jeans for that amount.

{a} loves her dresses and leggings. Both TJ Maxx and Marshalls carries a wide selection of dresses and a variety of different color leggings. I was able to find this adorable dress on clearance for $7 and the legging were just $6.99. Of course, she LOVED her new outfit. She said... "it's sooooo fashionable!"

Finally, little {e}. I found this Paper, Denim & Cloth outfit - including a top and pants, which would retail in a department store for over $50, for just $7.99. I couldn't believe my eyes... or the price tag. My best find yet!

So, how was my shopping trip overall? First, when shopping at either store, you need to set aside a little time to do so. To me, it's not much different than shopping at a big box retailer or department store. The store is organized by department and sizes are grouped together. New items are generally located on the endcaps. To me, searching for clothes at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls is like a treasure hunt. At the end of the treasure hunt, I find my buried treasure. It's definitely worth the trip and experience. My final thoughts: I would DEFINITELY recommend T.J. Maxx and Marshalls for your BTS shopping needs!
