Looking for something special warm and delightful for your Valentine? The way to my heart, if not through jewelry, is through a warm cup of java. I like to think of myself as a coffee connoisseur, so when given an opportunity to review Coffees of Hawaii, I was all over it. I mean, c'mon.... coffee + Hawaii.... really, how can you go wrong?

About Coffees of Hawaii

Hawai‘i is the only state in the U.S. with climatic conditions necessary for growing coffee. The combination of rich volcanic soil, a year-round warm climate and abundant rainfall adds up to an ideal environment. 

From 1850 to 1900 coffee was Hawai‘i's biggest agricultural crop. Sugar cane and pineapple came onto the scene early in the twentieth century and, because they were easier to grow and less labor intensive, most coffee acreage was converted to these new crops. Hawaiian coffee was traditionally grown on small, independent farms. Recently, however, relatively large plantations have been supplying the bulk of the crop.

Recent economic factors have dramatically altered the Hawaiian agricultural industry. Foreign competition has forced the sugar and pineapple industries into a steep decline, with no significant recovery in sight. 

Many sugar and pineapple plantations have closed, leaving thousands of acres of valuable farmland under utilized or not used at all. Coffee is being increasingly viewed as a viable replacement crop. 

After petroleum, coffee is the second most heavily-traded commodity in the world, and millions of farmers depend on coffee for their livelihood. Each cup of coffee you drink connects you to real people and places. Your choice of coffee helps ensure a better life for farming families and hope for the future! 

 The Valentine Tin is a Coffee Lover's dream. It is filled with three different (or it can be the all the same too) Coffees of Hawaii flavors. When you open up the tin, it's wrapped in white tissue and sealed with a Coffees of Hawaii sticker. It was so exciting to open... what delightful surprise await me inside?

Upon opening I was greeted by a delicious aroma of coffee beans. Ahhhhh....

Inside the tin were three unique coffee flavors {1} Toasted Coconut {2} Ka'u Loa and {3} Pohaku O Ka'anapali.

Toasted Coconut is a combination of Premium beans from throughout Hawai'i. They come together, capturing the essence of the islands. A medium roasting releases that essence. Then the roast master adds a touch of the balanced tropical sweetness of toasted coconut. Can you say yum. Love.

Ka'u Loa is a "Full City Roast" - dark but not too dark, yielding a rich, nutty aroma with a full flavor. Hints of chocolate, raspberry and dark cherry round out the cup. Really, the aroma is amazing and the flavor is outstanding. Smooth and not an ounce of bitterness. A coffee fanatic's dream.

Pohaku O Ka'anapali, Coffees of Hawaii's lightest roast consists of 100% Maui Red Catuai arabica coffee beans, custom roasted at their Kualapu‘u plantation with a Moloka‘i interpretation. A medium roast coaxes out a subtle Maui attitude. Balanced with hints of spice. I couldn't resist trying this flavor. I absolutely adore Maui, especially Ka'anapali. This flavor did not disappoint. Well balanced, with lots of deliciousness!

My favorite of the three.... Toasted Coconut. Drinking some as I type! Thank you Coffees of Hawaii!
